Re-sits
These can be very useful, especially if your English or maths results are not as good as you’d expected.
Study new subjects
- You may find some really interesting courses that you’ve never thought of doing before.
- Ask your Connexions Personal Adviser to help you find local courses.
Work-related learning – there are many qualifications at different levels that prepare you for jobs such as leisure and tourism, engineering or construction.
Apprenticeships
- Apprenticeships and other training programmes are done mainly at work and partly at college or a training centre.
- You’ll be learning how to do a job such as dental technician or administrator.
- You’ll be paid a wage.
Entry to Employment (e2e)
- E2e will help you improve your basic and key skills.
- It will help you achieve NVQ Level 1.
- You’ll gain work experience.
- You may be entitled to EMA.
Q: What are the different places I can study?
A: You can choose from the following…
- School sixth form
- Sixth form college
- College of further education
- Other colleges – for example drama schools or colleges where you study farming, agriculture or forestry.
Q: I keep hearing people talk about an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) – what is an EMA ?
A: Well, it’s a weekly allowance you may receive, depending on your family’s income. You need to stay on at school, go to college full-time, do e2e or PLP. Ask your Connexions Personal Adviser or school for an application form.
Q: I can’t understand what all these terms mean - can you help, please?
