Re-sits
These can be very useful, especially if your English or maths results are not as good as you’d expected.

Study new subjects
  • You may find some really interesting courses that you’ve never thought of doing before.
  • Ask your Connexions Personal Adviser to help you find local courses.

Work-related learning – there are many qualifications at different levels that prepare you for jobs such as leisure and tourism, engineering or construction.

Apprenticeships
  • Apprenticeships and other training programmes are done mainly at work and partly at college or a training centre.
  • You’ll be learning how to do a job such as dental technician or administrator.
  • You’ll be paid a wage.

Entry to Employment (e2e)

  • E2e will help you improve your basic and key skills.
  • It will help you achieve NVQ Level 1.
  • You’ll gain work experience.
  • You may be entitled to EMA.

Q: What are the different places I can study?

A:  You can choose from the following…

  • School sixth form
  • Sixth form college
  • College of further education
  • Other colleges – for example drama schools or colleges where you study farming, agriculture or forestry.

Q: I keep hearing people talk about an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) – what is an EMA ?

A: Well, it’s a weekly allowance you may receive, depending on your family’s income. You need to stay on at school, go to college full-time, do e2e or PLP. Ask your Connexions Personal Adviser or school for an application form.
